It’s a good thing that the Web site RecipeGirl.com wasn’t
around when my kids were growing up. Photos and recipes like those on this
week’s post about Mom-made Halloween treats would have made me look real bad.
Heck, I thought I was doing a good job buying bags of full-size Reese’s Peanut
Butter Cups. Maybe, on an occasion or two, I made refrigerated cookies and
added orange and black M&Ms to the mix.
On the other hand, Lori Lange, the creative and reliable author of RecipeGirl settles for
nothing less than homemade Witch Finger Cookies (with almond “fingernails” and
“blood red icing”); gingerbread cupcakes with pumpkin cream cheese
frosting; and Tarantula Cookies
that are stuck with
chocolate-dipped pretzel legs and covered with chocolate sprinkles and Red Hot
“eyes” (shown above). There’ll be squeals of glee on her block when the kiddos
get a look at her Mummy Heads, a cinnamon-spiced rice krispie treat that’s
covered with gauze and dotted with dried cranberry eyes.
Lange, a
former elementary school teacher, posts only original (and adapted)
recipes. The site’s “About”
feature says there are now more than 2,500 recipes available. The
holiday-themed recipes are among the best.
Do the young mothers in your circle a favor and send them a
link to yesterday’s post so they won’t be sitting around 15 years from now,
like I am, feeling like a bad mother!
What a treat! Thanks so much for the nice feature article. You're so sweet!
